Inspiration varies and comes and goes. I like to pull inspiration from the smallest of daily things I see, think or feel inspired by.
GEMMA MAHONEY | GRAPHIC DESIGN
What do you like to make?
I am a graphic designer by trade but I also love using design as a tool of self-expression and in someways using is as a bit of an art medium. I love exploring and experimenting with typography and almost treating it as a texture within a work and not something that necessarily needs to be read or legible. Design generally always communicates something and has a purpose, so I like removing these constraints and create something that might not have a purpose other than something for myself.
What is the inspiration for your work?
Inspiration varies and comes and goes. I like to pull inspiration from the smallest of daily things I see, think or feel inspired by. Sometimes even like researching or reading up on something and then creating from that. I get a lot of inspiration from blogs and Pinterest and each day spend a little bit of time on my computer looking at inspiration.

What are you making during the times of lockdown?
I've be working on a daily project called 'Home Everyday'. In response to everything going on and this very different way of living, I wanted to try and bring a sense of gratitude to my day. It's been going for just over 30 days now and it really has been helping me be more positive and grounded. I am learning from this time that I can still be content and happy with a much simpler life and enjoy and notice the small things. Of course there are days that are a struggle and it may feel like a chore, but generally it's been a really positive way to end the day.
